Syrian Ambassador Ali Abdul Karim Ali revealed on Wednesday that his country's authorities will hand over the bodies of those who were killed in Syria in three batches starting this Saturday.
Ali's announcement came during a meeting he held Wednesday night with Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, the National News Agency reported.
Conflicting reports surrounded the incident as the number of the Lebanese fighters killed by the regime forces in the Syrian border town is not yet clear.
Reports have said that around 22 men, among them Palestinians, were ambushed and that several of them were either killed or seized by regime forces, or have sought refuge with the rebel Free Syrian Army.
The fighters, most of them Salafists from North Lebanon, had crossed into Syria to fight alongside the FSA that is battling regime forces in an attempt to topple Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Prime Minister Najib Miqati asked the Red Cross on Monday to mediate with Syrian authorities to retrieve the bodies of Lebanese Islamist fighters.
