Interior Minister Ziad Baroud condemned on Tuesday politicians’ protection of officers who have had shortcomings in performing their duties in traffic control.
He said during a press conference that he will reveal the name of any officer who does not perform his duty, adding that the tense political situation in Lebanon does not exempt any one from his obligations in tackling traffic issues.
The minister urged parliament to quickly approve a new traffic law, listing a number of problems that need to be addressed in order to decrease the number of traffic accidents in the country.
Baroud also reached an agreement with Minister of Public Health Mohammed Jawad Khalifeh that the latter’s ministry would be responsible for announcing the number of deaths and wounded in traffic accidents.
