A squad of the Intelligence Directorate was able to arrest on Thursday a gang accused of kidnapping incidents in Lebanon, a statement by the Army Command.
"The army's intervention occurred when the suspected group was lurking a citizen in the Jamaliyyeh region of Baalbek, gearing up to kidnap him,” the army said.
An exchange of gunfire took place, leading to the death of gang members Abbas Mohammed al-Masri and Hussein Zoaiter.
“We were able to arrest Syrian national Saad al-Ali,, and the Lebanese Mohammad Abdullah al-Masri,” the statement said, adding that investigations are currently taking place to uncover other participants in these crimes.
Investigations revealed so far that the gang has been involved in many kidnapping incidents of Lebanese and Arab business men for money. Among their victims were Kuwaiti businessmen Issam al-Houty, Syrian national Osama Abdel Raouf and the manager of Liban Lait the Lebanese Ahmed Zaidan.
