Caretaker Prime Minister Saad Hariri praised on Wednesday the reconciliation between the Fatah and Hamas Palestinian groups, describing it as a “blessed step” in the Palestinians’ people struggle.
He hoped in a statement that the agreement would pave a way to establishing a Palestinian state and national unity.
“The agreement will put an end to the division and lead to a new phase in relations based on internal dialogue,” he continued.
“It should help establish a real and unified Palestinian authority capable of confronting the Israeli challenges and pressure,” the premier said.
“The Lebanese governments stresses the need for Arab support for the agreement and calls on the international community to comply with the requirements of Palestinian unity and not give Israel any opportunity to target and harm this agreement,” he asserted.
Hariri concluded: “We hope that the reconciliation will allow for the recognition of the Palestinian people’s rights and that it would not fall victim to Israeli maneuvering that would only keep the whole region hostage to violence and conflicts.”
