Two people were wounded on Thursday in an armed clash in the Tariq al-Jadideh neighborhood in Beirut.
The army soon deployed in the area and contained the situation.
Al-Jadeed television reported that the clashes erupted between the Fakhani and Abu Sahel neighborhoods in Tariq al-Jadideh, as state-run National News Agency said the clash involved the Ali and Krombi families.
“Knife stabbing between the two sides over an old dispute erupted into gunfire and the clash happened during an attempt to reconcile the two families,” NNA said.
The Army Command said in a statement that “the gunfire in Tariq al-Jadideh erupted over old disputes and an army unit is pursuing the gunmen in order to hand them over to the relevant judicial authorities.”
Meanwhile, NBN television said that the two groups involved are affiliated with the Mustaqbal movement.
It noted that gunmen had deployed heavily in the area.
Al-Manar television said that the clashes broke out between Mustaqbal movement groups near garage Darwish.
Information obtained by Naharnet said that the army had blocked the Cola road leading to the Beirut Arab University in the area in order to contain the situation.
