Davutoglu Urges Berri to Take Necessary Initiatives for Release of Turkish Nationals

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu called on Speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday to take the necessary initiatives to guarantee the safe release of the two abducted Turkish nationals in Lebanon.

“He demanded Berri to press the release of the two Turkish nationals,” diplomatic sources told Anatolia news agency.

The military wing of al-Meqdad clan announced on Wednesday that it had abducted over 20 supporters of the Free Syrian Army, as well as a Turkish national, in retaliation to the abduction of Hassan al-Meqdad in Syria on Monday.

On Thursday, unknown assailants abducted Turkish national Abd Basset Orssolane from the Choueifat region.

The clan’s spokesman Maher al-Meqdad had stated that the family’s military wing has nothing to do with the abduction.

The National News Agency reported earlier that Davutoglu contacted Berri.

The speaker urged Davutoglu to exert more efforts concerning the release of the 11 kidnapped Lebanese pilgrims in Syria.

“We should cooperate to end this case,” Berri said.

The pilgrims, who were kidnapped in Aleppo on May 22, were thought to be held in the Syrian region of Aazaz before Syrian regime forces targeted the region with airstrikes on Wednesday, raising questions about their fate.

Berri also held a meeting with Turkish Ambassador to Lebanon Inan Ozyildiz.

The meeting focused on the case of the Kidnapped Lebanese in Syria and the abducted Turkish nationals in Beirut.
