Report: PSP, Hizbullah, AMAL Agree to Halt Spread of Kidnapping Incidents

The Progressive Socialist Party, Hizbullah and AMAL movement agreed to halt any attempt to spread the kidnapping of Syrian nationals to other areas in Lebanon, security sources told the pan-Arab daily al-Hayat on Thursday.

The three parties exerted efforts on Wednesday to block the road on moving the abduction incidents to other regions in the country, denying that Syrian nationals were being kidnapped in Mount Lebanon, in particular, in Shouf region where leader MP Walid Jumblat resides.

Al-Meqdad clan kidnapped on Tuesday over 20 Syrian nationals, who allegedly belong to the Free Syrian Army, in tit-for-tat kidnappings after the FSA detained Hassan Salim al-Meqdad earlier this week.

The family’s military wing warned that they can reach Aley, Tripoli and Iqlim al-Kharroub, saying that they have a bank of targets in Lebanon and capable of reaching regional targets.

According to the National News Agency, the army and the Internal Security Forces took heavy security measures near the houses and palaces of Saudi and Qatari officials in Aley.

The security forces set up fixed checkpoints and carried out security patrols.

On Tuesday, Hizbullah denied a video aired by al-Arabiya news channel claiming that the FSA detained a member of Hizbullah identified as Hassan Salim al-Meqdad.

The family of 39-year-old Hassan also ruled out that he is a member of the party, revealing that he works at Jammal Trust Bank and headed to Syria a year and a half ago to resolve some financial problems.
