Aston Villa have begun talks on a new deal for veteran American goalkeeper Brad Friedel, his agent said on Monday.
Friedel's current deal runs out in the summer, but the 39-year-old has been in good form of late and coach Gerard Houllier has indicated he would address a new deal before seaons's end.
The player's agent Tony McGill said: "We are in talks over a new contract. Brad is very happy at Villa. If Brad was not happy, he would not be talking over a new contract.
"I have spoken with (Villa) chief executive Paul Faulkner and talks are going very well indeed."
Friedel spent seven years at Blackburn before joining Villa in 2008.
Last week he dismissed claims of a player revolt against former Liverpool boss Houllier, whose side are in the bottom five of the Premier League after their weekend draw with Everton.
The Frenchman took over at Villa Park last September after Martin O'Neill walked out.
