Local elections are to be held in Algeria on November 29, Interior Minister Daho Ould Kablia announced on Saturday, quoted by Algerian radio.
"The local elections will take place on November 29" for 1,541 municipal councils and 48 general (wilaya) councils, Kablia said at a forum in Algiers organized by Liberte newspaper.
Algeria held legislative polls in May and a presidential election is scheduled for next year that the incumbent, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, is not expected to contest.
While moderate Islamists in neighboring Tunisia, Morocco and in Egypt recorded major electoral gains on the back of the Arab Spring, Algeria's legal Islamist parties lost ground in the parliamentary polls.
