Glen Campbell Cancels Australia, NZ Tour over Alzheimer's

American country music star Glen Campbell has cancelled a farewell tour of Australia and New Zealand due to worsening Alzheimer's disease, his promoter said Thursday.

Campbell, whose hits include "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Southern Nights", was due to play six shows next month with Kenny Rogers and one solo performance in what would have been the final overseas concerts of "The Goodbye Tour".

But doctors advised that travelling so far would be too much of a strain for the ailing 76-year-old, who has released more than 70 albums.

"Due to a decline in his Alzheimer's condition his medical specialists have advised that the long international flight from Los Angeles would be detrimental to his health," the promoter said in a statement.

"Glen apologizes and is very disappointed that he is unable to perform for his New Zealand and Australian fans one last time on what would have been his farewell visit and last international dates on his The Goodbye Tour."

Campbell revealed he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease last year.

Rogers will continue with the tour.
