British Police Release Woman Arrested in Terrorism Probe

A 30-year-old woman who was one of seven people arrested in Britain on suspicion of terrorism offences has been released without charge, police said Sunday.

The woman who was arrested by counter-terrorism officers in west London Thursday when five men were also detained was freed on Saturday.

Six people remain in police custody, including a 22-year-old woman who was arrested early Saturday in Hackney, northeast London.

All the suspects are being held "on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism", London's Metropolitan Police said.

Officers investigating the suspected terror plot on Friday obtained warrants for further arrests that will expire next Thursday.

Scotland Yard says the operation is not linked to the London 2012 Olympics which begin on July 27 but declined to elaborate.

British media reported that the arrests related to a possible plot involving Islamist extremists with potential targets in Britain.

In a separate case, newspaper reports said Sunday that an Islamist terror suspect in Britain charged with breaking restrictions on his movements had crossed through London's Olympic Park five times.

Ahead of the Games, Britain's security threat level is set at "substantial," meaning officials believe there is a strong possibility of a terror attack.
