Suleiman Meets Harb: Security Agencies Given Strict Orders to Expose Details of Assassination Attempt
President Michel Suleiman slammed on Friday the assassination attempt against MP Butros Harb, condemning the return of “such incidents that only serve to create instability in Lebanon.”
He said after meeting the lawmaker at the Baabda Palace: “The security and legal authorities have received strict orders to work on uncovering the details of the case in order to reveal the perpetrators.”
Harb had informed the president of the details of the assassination attempt and the leads he has so far on the matter.
He stressed the importance of following up on this issue “for the sake of Lebanon’s security.”
Suleiman later held talks with Internal Security Forces chief Ashraf Rifi on the investigations.
Harb escaped an attempt on his life on Thursday when residents of the building in which his office is located discovered individuals trying to booby-trap the building’s elevator.
