Prime Minister Najib Miqati received on Monday a telephone call from French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who hoped that Lebanon would enjoy “complete stability”, especially in the South.
He told the premier: “France understands Lebanon’s policy of distancing itself from the Syrian crisis.”
For his part, Miqati thanked Fabius for France’s “interest in Lebanon’s stability,” stressing the importance of bolstering ties between the two countries.
He then condemned the Syrian security forces’ detention of two general security members from Lebanon, deeming the action an “unacceptable” violation of the country’s sovereignty.
The prime minister stressed that the issue will be followed up by the concerned authorities in order to uncover all of its details.
Syrian security forces infiltrated the northern region of Wadi Khaled on Monday and detained two general security members for an hour, several media outlets reported.
