The Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc said on Tuesday that national dialogue is “useless if it does not tackle Hizbullah arms,” adding that “the rhetoric of treason accusations and threats” indicates bad intentions.
The bloc issued a statement after its weekly meeting, saying that “certain stances expressed at the dialogue session echo the accusations of treason and threats, which reflects the bad intentions of some groups.”
“The main subject remaining on the dialogue agenda is Hizbullah arms, and this issue has not been tackled yet,” the statement added, stressing out that “without this subject, dialogue would be useless.”
All- party talks kicked off Monday at Baabda Palace, where political leaders convened, issuing a final statement without mentioning Hizbullah arms.
Mustaqbal bloc also expressed its “adherence to March 14 forces and full commitment to the salvation initiative, which was presented to President Michel Suleiman.”
As for Prime Minister Najib Miqati’s remarks, the bloc criticized “Miqati’s stance regarding Hizbullah arms, which contributes to spreading chaos and instability, especially in the northern city of Tripoli.”
The Mustaqbal statement considered that the arms being used in the clashes between the two rival neighborhoods of Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen “are managed and supplied by Hizbullah.”
The assemblers condemned the tit-for-tat kidnappings in the north, pointing out that “such actions were initiated by the Syrian regime to provoke reactions at the Lebanese side.”
“Such actions benefit Lebanon’s enemies and harm the foundations of Lebanese coexistence to divert attention from the violations in Syria,” the statement added.
Mustaqbal bloc refuted the report aired by Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC) on Monday, adding that “the minutes of meetings were fabricated to offend Lebanon and Arab countries, and are incompatible with media ethics and rules.”
LBC had broadcast a report on Monday claiming that Hariri said “Hizbullah attacked Israel, and should pay for the May 7 events” during a meeting between Suleiman and Saudi leaders.
