Berri Stresses Importance of National Dialogue
Speaker Nabih Berri stressed on Monday that the resumption of the national dialogue would have a positive impact on the country regardless of the outcome.
He told As Safir newspaper that the all-party talks give hope amid the “dark” stage Lebanon is passing through.
He considered that the national dialogue is the only way to confront the challenges of the current period and its repercussions on the country’s stability and unity among the Lebanese.
Asked about the memorandum the March 14-led opposition handed to President Michel Suleiman on the national dialogue on Saturday, Berri pointed out that it includes “concepts the opposition had announced before.”
“The important thing is that when we meet we deal with each other in a sophisticated way to safeguard Lebanon’s interests,” he told An Nahar newspaper.
Berri noted that the current situation requires the resumption of a national dialogue.
He said that the gatherers will recall the late “Dean of Journalists” in Lebanon Ghassan Tueni.
“He used a phrase during one of the dialogue sessions that a successful diplomacy would be adopted in closed rooms,” Berri added.
Tueni, the honorary president and former chairman of the board of directors of An Nahar newspaper, passed away at dawn Friday at the age of 86
