President Michel Suleiman extended his condolences to the family of veteran journalist Ghassan Tueni on Sunday, saying the “Dean of Journalists” will be missed at the dialogue table.
Suleiman made the remark to the National News Agency after he and first lady Wafaa went to the St. Nicolas Greek Orthodox church to pay their condolences to Tueni’s family and An Nahar daily’s staff.
“Ghassan Tueni, the man of dialogue, will be missed on the eve of the (national) dialogue,” Suleiman said.
“He left us but his thoughts will remain and everyone should be guided by them,” the president added.
He described Tueni’s death as a big loss for Lebanon and praised him for burying hatred and vengeance when his son Jebran Tueni was assassinated in 2005.
Ghassan Tueni passed away on Friday at the age of 86.
