Report: Arms in Lebanon, New Govt. Keys to March 14 Participation in National Dialogue

The March 14 forces are preparing a memorandum to hand President Michel Suleiman listing the factors that are key to their participation in the national dialogue, reported An Nahar daily on Tuesday.

It reported that the factors consist of the formation of a neutral government ahead of the 2013 parliamentary elections, setting the issue of illegal arms as a main topic of discussion, keeping Lebanon away from regional disputes, and asserting the role of the army in Lebanon.

The head of the Mustaqbal parliamentary bloc MP Fouad Saniora told An Nahar that preparations for the memorandum are underway and it will be delivered to Suleiman ahead of the June 11 national dialogue session.

Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea had told the Central News Agency on Monday that the “minimum requirements” to hold dialogue need to be met.

A March 14 delegation will hold talks with Suleiman during the upcoming two days to this end, he revealed.

An opposition MP, who was left unnamed, told As Safir newspaper in remarks published on Tuesday that it is unlikely that the forces will participate in the talks.

It reported that the national dialogue has received a European boost with the European Union, France, and Italy considering it as the only way to ease the current tensions in Lebanon.
