Spanish Foreign Minister Trinidad Jimenez arrived in Beirut Wednesday afternoon from Amman as part of a tour of the region.
She said upon her arrival: “Spain has and still supports the peace process in the region.”
“It does not fear an Israeli strike on southern Lebanon as the situation there is stable,” she stressed.
She is scheduled to hold talks with a number of Lebanese officials on her two-day visit, including President Michel Suleiman, Prime Minister-designate Najib Miqati, and Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun.
Jimenez will also visit the Spanish unit in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
After arriving at the airport, she headed to the Baabda palace where she is expected to meet with Suleiman and later hold a press conference with her counterpart Ali Shami at the Foreign Ministry.
