SANA: Authorities Thwart Another Infiltration of Armed Terrorist Group from Lebanon into Syria

Syrian security authorities thwarted on Wednesday night the infiltration of an “armed terrorist group” from Lebanese territory into a town in Reef Homs in Syria, reported the Syrian news agency SANA on Thursday.

An informed source said that a member of the group was arrested after being wounded, while the rest of the members fled to Lebanon.

SANA said that the group was seeking to enter the town of Halat in Reef Homs.

The source added that the authorities thwarted five infiltration attempts by “terrorist groups” during the past 72 hours.

Two days ago, the news agency had reported that a similar group had tried to enter the Syrian town of al-Joubaniyeh from Lebanon.

Smuggling of arms from Lebanon to Syria had intensified in recent months in light of the popular uprising that erupted against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s rule in March 2011.

Syrian forces had also carried out incursions into Lebanese territory in Wadi Khaled and al-Qaa in al-Bekaa in pursuit of what the authorities called terrorist groups.
