Gemayel demands executive steps to keep Lebanon out of war

Kataeb Party leader MP Sami Gemayel has called for "executive measures" to prevent Hezbollah from dragging Lebanon into a war.

"The state cannot leave the decision to avoid war to Hezbollah and build on reassurances from the group," Gemayel told journalists on Wednesday.

He added that national dialogue can only take place after Hezbollah disarms, firmly rejecting any prior discussions regarding the group's weapons or a national "defense strategy."

"The government's decision regarding the exclusivity of arms is clear and must be implemented first," Gemayel said. "Dialogue would come after Hezbollah's disarmament and when the decision of war and peace returns to the hands of the state, allowing the Lebanese to regain their right to self-determination free from foreign influence and illegal arms."
