Aoun urges senior U.S. officials to prevent Israeli yellow zone expansion, report says
President Joseph Aoun is communicating with senior U.S. officials to prevent Netanyahu from expanding the Israeli-declared yellow zone in south Lebanon, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported Wednesday.
The daily said that Aoun received U.S. guarantees that Netanyahu will not be given the green light to do so.
It said it has learned from a political source that Hezbollah, on the other hand, should not give Israel a pretext to strike Iqlim al-Tuffah and Jabal al-Rihan.
The source claimed that Aoun is not currently in contact with Hezbollah but is instead exchanging messages with them through Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
