UK Deputy Chief of Defense Staff reaffirms support for Lebanon's security, regional stability

Lieutenant General Sir Charlie Collins KBE DSO, Deputy Chief of the British Defense Staff (Military Strategy and Operations), concluded a visit to Lebanon on Tuesday 29 September, the British embassy said on Friday.

During the visit, Lieutenant General Collins met Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, Lebanese Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, and United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jean Arnault. He was accompanied by Deputy Defense Attaché Squadron Leader Craig Pearson.

Discussions focused on the security situation in south Lebanon and highlighted the “critical role” of the Lebanese Army in “safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty, supporting state authority, and contributing to long-term stability,” an embassy statement said.

Lieutenant General Collins reaffirmed “the UK’s partnership with Lebanon and its continued support for the Lebanese Armed Forces as the country’s sole legitimate defender.”

The visit also underscored the UK's “support for diplomatic efforts necessary for reducing tensions, preventing escalation, and creating the conditions for a secure and sustainable future for Lebanon,” the statement said.

Collins for his part said: "I was pleased to visit Lebanon and meet senior political, military and international leaders. The UK highly values its long-standing partnership with Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces. At a time of continued regional uncertainty, we remain committed to supporting efforts that enhance security and uphold Lebanon’s sovereignty."
