The Lebanese Army has outlined its conditions for any future international verification mechanism in south Lebanon, expressing its openness to a technically independent entity, provided that its operations on the ground be conducted in conjunction with the army and under its sovereign authority, al-Binaa newspaper reported on Monday.
According to this report, the Lebanese approach focuses on combining the technical independence of the international body with maintaining the state's exclusive control over operations on the ground.
The framework agreement reached in June calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah, a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of the Lebanese Army to the region, starting in "pilot zones".
