Salameh transferred to hospital after his health deteriorates

Former Central Bank governor Riad Salameh was transferred Monday to the Daher al-Bashek Hospital, located just minutes from Roumieh Prison, after his health deteriorated, a judicial source said.

The source told the al-Modon news portal that Salameh's health had rapidly worsened in recent hours, particularly his blood pressure, which necessitated his transfer to Daher al-Bashek Hospital to prevent any further health complications that could be life-threatening.

State Prosecutor Judge Ahmad Rami al-Hajj had earlier instructed the prison administration to transfer Salameh from the prison to the hospital for “routine medical examinations” and “not due to any health deterioration,” the National News Agency said.

Al-Hajj ordered that Salameh undergo medical examinations and an electrocardiogram (ECG), in addition to a respiratory test, noting that his blood pressure was stable and within normal ranges.

However, Salameh refused to undergo any medical procedure and completely declined to have an ECG or a respiratory test.

Consequently, Judge al-Hajj tasked the Brummana detachment of the Internal Security Forces with going to Roumieh and preparing an official report documenting Salameh's refusal to undergo medical examinations and take medication, to be recorded with audio and video.
