Salam says southerners are not alone, state will facilitate their return
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who visited Wednesday the southern village of Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, said the visit aimed to reassure the people of the south that the state is with them.
Salam, alongside Lebanon’s defense minister and senior military officials, pitched a Lebanese flag near a destroyed building in the town, vowing the government will start rebuilding destroyed homes and infrastructure.
He said Thursday that the state will not stop at reclaiming the land, but will return to the people of the south and with them.
The return begins with the deployment of the army and security forces, followed by reopening roads, clearing debris, and restoring basic services, ultimately ensuring the prerequisites for a dignified return, including temporary and transitional shelter such as prefabricated units, Salam said.
He stressed that the people of the south will not be left to face this phase alone, stating that state ministries, public institutions, and government councils are fully mobilized for the task. "The State will deploy all available resources to launch the process of return and early recovery."
Salam's visit to Zawtar al-Gharbieh came a day after President Joseph Aoun’s landmark White House meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.
