Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Wednesday that "talking about any potential meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is still premature."
In a statement to journalists, he emphasized that "any high-level meeting with the Israeli side requires extensive preparation."
Salam clarified that Lebanon is not seeking "normalization with Israel, but rather achieving peace," reminding everyone that "this is not the first time Lebanon has engaged in direct negotiations with Israel."
He indicated that "establishing a ceasefire will form the basis for any new round of negotiations that might be held in Washington," reiterating that the current circumstances "are still not conducive to discussing high-level meetings."
He added: "Our minimum demand is a timetable for Israel's withdrawal."
Salam also said that "Lebanon will review and develop its arms restriction plan" and that "Lebanon's negotiations with Israel are not totally separate from the Islamabad track."
