Bassil meets Berri, says efforts underway for 'consensual' president

Free Patriotic Movement chief Jebran Bassil on Monday held talks in Ain el-Tineh with Speaker Nabih Berri.

“The meeting is aimed at highlighting a major Lebanese stance over the main topics on which there is a sort of unanimity, topped by the ceasefire and the implementation of Resolution 1701,” Bassil said after the meeting.

“We stressed in the meeting with Speaker Berri upon internal solidarity, not only the humanitarian one, but also in the face of the Israeli enemy,” Bassil added.

“In the presidential file, efforts are underway to reach a consensual president who would unify and not represent a challenge to anyone. The issue is not about electing a president with 86 votes, but about securing quorum and the biggest extent of unanimity over the president,” the FPM chief went on to say.
