Report: US moves to reach comprehensive pacification in region

The United States is seeking to reach "comprehensive pacification" in the region, in an unannounced move revealed by Israel's Channel 12.

The pacification efforts involve all the fronts in the region and Israel is not part of these efforts at this stage, the channel said.

It quoted senior officials in the Israeli government as saying that they learned in the past few days of talks between the United States and Arab countries with Iran about a proposal for a comprehensive ceasefire on all fronts, including the Israeli escalation in Lebanon and the support fronts launched by the Houthis from Yemen and the pro-Iran factions in Iraq.

According to the report, it is still not clear whether these efforts would include the Gaza front.

"Israel has not yet participated in these talks and has not conveyed its position to the United States," the report said.

The Israeli channel quoted senior officials as saying that "Israel is currently in a position of strength,” and that “the ceasefire will be in accordance with its terms, which include Hezbollah's withdrawal to the north of the Litani River and the dismantling of all of the party's military facilities in areas adjacent to the border."

This comes at a time when Israel is preparing to respond to the missile attack launched by Iran on October 1 and in light of Israeli reports suggesting that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, after a long absence, is communicating with mediating countries to explore opportunities to resume negotiations.
