Aoun says Lebanon won't be lenient in border demarcation
President Michel Aoun said Monday that Lebanon won't be lenient as to its natural resources, as Lebanon celebrated its 77th Army Day.
Aoun affirmed his keenness on Lebanon's rights, adding that the aim of the border demarcation talks is to protect Lebanon's natural resources.
U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein had arrived Sunday in Beirut to push talks to resolve a bitter maritime border dispute between Lebanon and Israel over Mediterranean waters with offshore gas fields.
He is scheduled to meet with President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati today, Monday.
"The negotiations present an opportunity to restore the economic situation in the country," Aoun said, before heading to Baadba to meet with Hochstein.
He hoped, on another note, that the presidential vote wouldn't meet the same fate as the new government.
"Failing to form a new government will expose Lebanon to further turmoil and will deepen the economic and financial difficulties," Aoun said, underlining the need for forming a government to prevent a further deterioration of the situation.
