Geagea Meets Hariri, Says LF Not behind Govt. 'Obstacle'
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea held talks Monday evening at the Center House with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri.
“We fully support the presidential tenure, away from any other sensitivities. I declare from here that we will stop political debates regarding the government formation process and this is aimed at helping the premier-designate,” Geagea said after the meeting.
“The assistance that we can offer is through refraining from responding to the insults we are receiving. As for portfolios and shares, there is an election result that has produced new political weights that cannot be disregarded,” Geagea added.
Emphasizing that the LF is not behind the “obstacle” that is delaying the formation of the new government, the LF leader underlined that the formation process is the responsibility of Hariri and President Michel Aoun, not anyone else.
As for the LF's relation with the Free Patriotic Movement, Geagea added: “We will hold onto the Maarab Agreement until the end. I will not engage in any debate and I will leave the matter to the president.”
“Facilitating the formation of the government does not mean letting others take advantage of us. We believe in the new presidential tenure and we were at the heart of its existence and its success is in our interest,” Geagea went on to say.
