Slueiman Returns to Beirut from Armenia, Hails Role of Armenians in Lebanon

President Michel Suleiman returned to Lebanon on Saturday from a three-day visit to Armenia where he met his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sarkissian and other officials.

He stressed the importance of the agreements between the two countries, praising the “major role Lebanese of Armenian origin play in all fields in Lebanon.”

Suleiman held talks with the Armenian president during the final day of his trip.

Sarkissian said that the visit reflected the “depth of Lebanese-Armenian ties, especially since Lebanon represented a safe haven for the Armenian people.”

“Lebanon accepted them and they have consequently become part of the Lebanese people,” he noted.

Suleiman also visited the Catholicos of All Armenians in Echmiadzin, where he met Catholicos Karekin II who highlighted Lebanon’s role in helping the Armenian people in overcoming the hardships they endured in the past.
