Woman Shot in Syria Dies in Lebanese Hospital

A Syrian woman who entered Lebanon overnight and sought treatment at a hospital died of gunshot wounds suffered in Syria, National News Agency reported on Saturday.

The 24-year-old woman was transferred to al-Salam Hospital in Qbayat on Saturday afternoon.

According to NNA, Rabea A.K. is the wife of the Syrian refugees’ spokesman in Akkar Sheikh Abdulrahman Akkari.

Residents across the border in the Lebanese town of Wadi Khaled said on Saturday they heard sustained gunfire and shelling from the town of Tall Khallak in Homs province, Agence France Presse reported.

Thousands of Syrians have fled Tal Kalakh and other border areas into Lebanon in recent months, as President Bashar Assad's troops fight an eight-month uprising.

According to Lebanese officials, Syrian troops have also planted mines on the border with Lebanon to prevent weapons smuggling and to stop dissidents from fleeing.

Lebanon is bitterly divided between pro- and anti-Damascus camps, and there are growing fears that the bloodshed in Syria could spill over the border.
