Speaker Nabih Berri announced Wednesday that the long-stalled new wage scale will be approved next month at the latest.
“If failure to approve the wage scale impoverishes citizens, failure to approve an electoral law will be suicide,” MPs quoted Berri as saying after his weekly meeting with lawmakers in Ain el-Tineh.
“The wage scale will be inevitably approved and the month of April will not pass without its approval,” Berri added according to the MPs.
“We have two or three weeks to reach a new electoral law, or else we would be heading into the unknown. And as I said before, the government must shoulder its responsibility towards the electoral law and the wage scale by approving them and referring them to parliament,” the speaker said.
He reminded that “this government was formed on the basis that it is an elections government and that it would approve a state budget.”
Berri also reiterated the need to form the National Commission for Combating Corruption.
