Foreign Ministry Denounces Assassination of Russian Diplomat in Ankara

Lebanon's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Tuesday the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey, Andrei Karlov, in Ankara, the state-run National News Agency reported.

“This is a cowardly terrorist act that we utterly deplore. Targeting diplomats to send desperate political messages will not alter the means by which diplomatic nations resort to dialogue as the sole means to resolve conflicts,” a statement by the ministry read.

“This dangerous terrorist crime aims at drawing a wedge between the recently renewed relations between Russia and Turkey,” the statement added, also deeming this act a blow to efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis.

The statement concluded expressing “heartfelt condolences to the Russian people, state, as well as the family of the deceased.”
