Hizbullah Says Ban Biased to West, Slams Report on Implementation of 1701

Hizbullah slammed on Thursday United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s report on the implementation of Security Council resolution 1701.

“Ban confirmed once again that he is completely biased towards the west instead of implementing the goals of the international organization to establish peace and stability around the world,” the party said in a statement.

Five years after the expansion of UNIFIL’s activities, it’s time to carry out a strategic review of its mission, Ban said in his 17th report on the implementation of 1701.

Hizbullah said that the report is full of “false information” and indicates the international community’s annoyance from “the Lebanese decision to reinforce its position against Israel.”

“It contradicts the facts on the ground, which assures the stability of the situation in the south,” the group said in a statement.

Ban said in his report that he is looking forward for a strategic dialogue that allows the Lebanese army to take the biggest share of security responsibilities, reiterating that Hizbullah and other armed groups pose a threat to the sovereignty and stability of Lebanon.

Hizbullah’s statement said however: “We condemn the new stances of the Secretary General, and we consider the U.S. dominance on the U.N. agencies a big threat to peace and security in the world.”

Earlier this week, U.N. Special Coordinator for Lebanon Ad Interim Robert Watkins said during a meeting with Prime Minister Najib Miqati that the U.N. Security Council will discuss on November 29 the report on Lebanon’s implementation of resolution 1701.
