EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton stressed during talks with PM Najib Miqati the importance of implementing U.N. Security Council resolutions.
Lebanon “should continue to implement international resolutions,” Ashton told Miqati during talks in London on Tuesday.
The prime minister’s press office also quoted her as saying that the Arab League has now a bigger chance to solve the Middle East crises and help the Arab world in moving to a new stage.
Ashton later described in a statement her meeting with Miqati as “excellent,” saying she discussed with him the efforts exerted to protect the Lebanese people and guarantee job opportunities to them.
“We also discussed bilateral relations and the continuation of support for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon,” the statement said.
Miqati’s press office said the premier’s talks with Ashton also focused on the need to consolidate stability in Lebanon through the support of the international community and Europe.
They discussed Lebanon’s continued respect for international resolutions that fall in the country’s national interest, it said.
