Parliament Bureau Fails to Agree on Legislative Session Agenda

The parliament bureau held a meeting on Tuesday in an attempt to agree on the agenda of the upcoming legislative session.

Deputy Speaker Farid Makari stated after the meeting however that the concerned forces failed to agree on an agenda.

A new meeting for the bureau will be held next week, he added.

Tuesday's meeting was held at Speaker Nabih Berri's residence of Ain el-Tineh.

It was attended by MPs Marwan Hamadeh, Ahmed Fatfat, Michel Moussa, Antoine Zahra, and Serge Torsarkissian.

A dispute emerged after the talks on whether to include the draft-law on restoring the nationality of Lebanese expatriates.

Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra told reporters: “The LF and Free Patriotic Movement insist on including the parliamentary electoral law on the agenda of the legislative session after the draft-law on the nationality is included.”

“The LF's participation at the legislative session hinges on whether the parliamentary electoral law is on its agenda,” he stressed.

Mustaqbal MP Torsarkissian criticized this position however, saying that attention should be directed at resolving the country's trash disposal crisis.

“What use is the nationality law if the Lebanese people in the country are immigrating?” he asked.

Shouldn't conditions in Lebanon be improved for the expatriates to return to their country? wondered the MP.

Earlier on Tuesday, the LF and FPM signed an agreement on the nationality draft-law.
