Report: Aoun Reiterates Commitment to 'Legislation of Necessity' ahead of Parliament Bureau Meeting

Speaker Nabih Berri, Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil, Free Patriotic Movement chief MP Michel Aoun, and Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan had held talks on Monday ahead of a meeting aimed at preparing the agenda of the upcoming legislative session, revealed al-Joumhouria newspaper on Tuesday.

It said that the talks were held ahead of Monday's national dialogue talks.

The preparatory meeting is set for Tuesday.

Aoun had stressed during the meeting his commitment to the “legislation of necessity”.

Khalil and Kanaan later held talks on Monday night to follow up on the day's discussions and to “reach a joint vision of the legislation of necessity.”

Al-Joumhouria said that the gatherers had devised a draft that includes a number of projects and proposals that will be addressed during the parliamentary bureau meeting.

Political parties had intensified their talks over the past week in preparation for the parliamentary bureau meeting that is expected to tackle the agenda of an upcoming legislative session.

The session is set to be held in November.
