Gemayel Meets Davutoglu, Urges Turkey to Reinforce Stability in Region

Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel urged Turkey on Saturday to launch a practical measure that serves stability, security and coexistence in the region.

“We share the same vision with the Turkish officials concerning the developments in the region,” Gemayel said after meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

He stressed that Turkey must “support” all the Arab Uprisings since “we have common interests in the region.”

Gemayel said during a joint press conference with Davutoglu that the meeting tackled the possibility of spreading democracy and freedom in the region.

“They shouldn’t be merely slogans, they must be implemented around the countries of the region,” he stated.

Gemayel said that “Davutoglu expressed his belief that cooperation and coexistence should be encouraged among all religions and sects around the world.”

For his part, the Turkish FM stressed that “Lebanon’s stability is vital,” noting the importance of “learning from the phases that Lebanon has passed through to stop any reoccurrence.”

He said that he was ready to offer his assistance to achieve the initiatives stated by Gemayel “and coordinate their implementation due to their importance.”

“We’ve discussed the relations among religions and sects to establish stability, and the importance of playing a positive role in the democratic transformation stage,” Davutoglu said.

Gemayel offered his condolences to the Turkish FM after the quake which has killed more than 500 people.
