A Croatian working for a French company has been kidnapped in Cairo, the Croatian foreign ministry said Friday.
The 31-year-old man, identified only by his initials T.S. was abducted by gunmen on Wednesday when traveling to work in a car, the ministry said in a statement.
"The armed group stopped his car, forced the driver out and drove away in an unknown direction," it said without elaborating.
A police official in Cairo told AFP that the kidnapping was not likely to be terrorist-related and that a probe was ongoing.
The foreign ministry in Zagreb said it was in contact with Egyptian authorities, as well as the man's family.
According to Croatian media reports, the kidnapped man was working for the French energy company CGG.
