Speaker Nabih Berri on Wednesday restated his satisfaction regarding the progress of the dialogue between Hizbullah and al-Mustaqbal Movement.
"The second dialogue session's achievements were more than positive. They went beyond bilateral meetings to provide cover to national security and general stability,” Berri said during the weekly Wednesday meeting with MPs.
Hizbullah and al-Mustaqbal stated after the second dialogue session on Monday their support for the continued implementation of the security plan across all Lebanese regions, revealing that progress was made on the topic of “defusing sectarian tension.”
Dialogue had kicked off on December 23, 2014 between the two parties and the first session was aimed at devising a “roadmap” and a “mechanism” for the next sessions. Both parties declared after the first session that they are keen on a serious dialogue that can tackle all issues.
The MPs revealed that the issue of investing in Lebanon's fresh water was extensively discussed during the meeting.
They quoted Berri as stressing “the importance of following up on this file carefully.” The speaker asked the parliamentary committee of energy and water to “appoint experts who are able to study all the sides of this file so that the nation can take benefit of this natural resource.”
The MPs also quoted Berri as saying that he asked “the parliamentary committee in charge of overseeing the enforcement of laws to hold a press conference next Monday to inform the public about the laws and the results of their meetings.”
Separately, Berri met Monday afternoon with U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale in Ain al-Tineh, where they discussed the situation in Lebanon and Middle East.
