The Mufti of Tripoli and the North Sheikh Malek al-Shaar revealed on Wednesday that preparations are underway to hold a Christian-Islamic conference in the northern city of Tripoli.
He pointed out that contacts are underway to prepare for the conference that will include prominent religious and political figures in the city.
Shaar estimated that the conference will be held between October 15 and 20, stressing that it will confirm Tripoli's true identity and the religious and patriotic values of its residents.
Tripoli recently witnessed vandalism acts where Islamists allegedly burned crosses and several threats were written on the walls of Churches.
Media reports have recently accused an armed group operating in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh of pledging allegiance to the Islamic State and al-Nusra Front extremist groups, but the gunmen denied that.
The same group is also accused of being behind several attacks on the army in the city.
