About 200 people in Islamist-run Sudan on Friday called for "jihad" at a demonstration against an Israeli assault on Hamas in the Gaza strip.
The peaceful demonstration took place outside the Grand Mosque in central Khartoum following Friday prayers.
"Jihad! Jihad against America! Jihad in Gaza!" the protesters called, according to an Agence France Presse photographer.
Israel began an offensive against Hamas-ruled Gaza on July 8 with the aim of stamping out cross-border rocket fire.
More than 260 Palestinians have been killed.
Israeli ground operations began on Thursday night aimed at smashing Hamas's network of cross-border tunnels.
Israeli officials have long accused Sudan of serving as a base of support for militants of Islamist Hamas.
Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir last week met in the Gulf nation of Qatar with Khaled Meshaal, the exiled Hamas chief.
