Sources: Lebanon 90% Free from Bombings Risk

After witnessing a feverish time period of suicide bombings and booby-trapped cars that created havoc among the citizens, Lebanon seems to be 90 percent free from this fear, media reports said on Saturday.

“As the result of the cabinet formation, dismantling of terrorist networks and better control of the border and the decline of political mobilization and sectarianism, Lebanon is currently 90 percent distant from the fear of booby-trapped cars and random bombings,” well informed security sources told As Safir daily.

However they stressed that all environments, mainly in the refugee camps, supporting and nourishing such attacks must also be eliminated.

The sources pointed to the “necessity to control the remaining 10 percent that keeps anxiety running particularly that of the 'incubating' environments which supply terrorist cells still lingers in some of the refugee camps.”

Lebanon witnessed a series of suicide bombings and booby-trapped cars that left many dead. Most of the bombings targeted Hizbullah's stronghold of Beirut's southern suburb in retaliation to the party's engagement in Syria's war.

The northern city of Tripoli has also had its share as the result of Syria war spillover, as constant conflicts and fire exchange between the pro-Syria Jabal Mohsen and anti-Syrian regime Bab al-Tabbaneh killed and wounded many.

However, since the formation of PM Tammam Salam's cabinet in February the Lebanese army has been able to implement strict security plans in several areas in the north and the Bekaa in addition to confiscating weapons' cache.
