Berri Says STL Being Used to Create State of Confusion
Speaker Nabih Berri has appeased fears over the dangers that the political tension poses on the country’s security situation, saying no one has an interest in reaching a state of chaos.
“The political tension that the country is witnessing doesn’t necessarily pose a danger on the security situation because no one has an interest in any security deterioration which leads to chaos,” Berri told his visitors according to pan-Arab daily al-Hayat published Friday.
The visitors also told al-Joumhouria newspaper that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon is being used to cause confusion. The STL indictment was published as the situation in Syria began to calm down, he said.
On the electricity crisis, Berri stressed his readiness to find “the appropriate solution” to the controversy on a draft law that would allow the energy minister to spend $1.2 billion to build power plants.
The speaker told his visitors that efforts should be exerted to support the government and help it implement its policy statement.
