U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Poland in June as part of a European tour that will also include stops in France and Belgium, Vice President Joe Biden announced Wednesday.
The visit to Poland comes as Washington tries to allay the concerns of its allies over the escalating crisis in neighboring Ukraine.
"I'm pleased to announce that in June, President Obama will be returning to Europe," Biden said in a speech to the Atlantic Council think tank.
"He will visit Poland for the 25th anniversary of the democratic elections that took place there for the first time in a long time."
During the trip, Obama will also visit France for the 70th anniversary of D-Day and attend a G7 summit in Belgium that is expected to focus on Ukraine.
The G7 meeting in Brussels was scheduled when the West cancelled a Group of Eight summit in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, in a move to isolate Moscow over its intervention in Ukraine, especially its annexation of Crimea.
Obama -- who visited Europe in late March -- will head back in September for a NATO summit in Britain.
