Israeli troops on Monday dismantled and removed two electronic devices from the Lebanese border town of Adaisseh, as Lebanese soldiers and UNIFIL peacekeepers stood guard and monitored the process.
“At 10:45 a.m., a patrol belonging to the Israeli enemy and accompanied by two members of (UNIFIL's) liaison apparatus dismantled and removed the two electronic devices that were placed in the border area of Adaisseh, south of the Blue Line,” a Lebanese army statement said.
The army confirmed that the step happened “in the presence of army forces and U.N. peacekeepers.”
Meanwhile, al-Manar television stressed during its evening bulletin that the Israeli troops were operating inside Lebanese territory. Two reporters who were on the scene complained to al-Manar that the Israelis were stepping on Lebanese land and that Lebanese journalists were prohibited from approaching the location.
Earlier on Monday, the Lebanese and Israeli armies beefed up their deployment along the border of the southern town of Adaisseh.
According to Voice of Lebanon radio (93.3), the Lebanese military heavily mobilized along the border and took precautionary measures as the Israeli army reinforced its military presence off the border town of Adaisseh.
According to the state-run National News Agency, Israeli soldiers crossed into the area at 10:15 a.m. and dismantled two spying devices they had planted on Saturday in al-Mahafer area in Adaisseh.
The NNA said that the soldiers were accompanied by a Humvee.
A two-piece object resembling a spying device was found planted under a tree in Adaisseh on Saturday.
“The object was placed in al-Mahafer neighborhood in the town, in an area that is 150 meters away from the barbed wires to the south of Misgav Am settlement near Adaisseh,” reported the NNA.
The Lebanese Army issued a communique on Saturday saying that two computers with Hebrew writing were found in the disputed area.
“The Indonesian patrol in the UNIFIL found a suspicious object in a disputed area near Adaisseh,” the statement detailed.
Tension has spiked on the border between the two countries since a Lebanese soldier gunned down an Israeli soldier driving near the frontier on December 16.
Israel's border with Lebanon has been largely quiet since the 2006 war with Hizbullah.
