Mubarak 'Stable', Despite Losing Consciousness

Egypt's ousted president Hosni Mubarak's health is stable, but he has an abnormal heart rhythm and sometimes falls unconscious, the official MENA news agency reported on Tuesday.

The ex-president, 83, is under arrest on murder and corruption charges in a hospital in the Red Sea resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.

His lawyer Farid al-Dib said last week that Mubarak, whose three-decade rule ended with a popular revolt in February, had slipped into a coma, which hospital officials denied.

"The former president Hosni Mubarak's health is stable, although he suffers from an irregular heartbeat," the agency quoted a medical source as saying. "He falls unconscious sometimes and lacks concentration."

He and his two sons, who face similar charges, are scheduled to go on trial on August 3, most likely in Sharm el-Sheikh although activists want him to be transferred to Cairo for the trial.
