The new Director-General of the General Security Department Abbas Ibrahim hoped that he’s up to the tasks he’s been assigned to, “because it’s the time to work and cooperate with different parties.”
“Lebanon needs all its citizens, and efforts should be exerted to halt saboteurs from achieving their goals,” Ibrahim told al-Liwaa newspaper on Tuesday.
The director-general said that naming him was due to Interior Minister Marwan Charbel’s recommendation after they met on Friday.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim’s visitors told As Safir that his priority is to “serve the people through the General Security, provide political stability, and preserve citizen’s security.”
“The deepening political divide requires us to be more responsible in confronting Israeli danger and terrorism,” they said.
Concerning the March 14-led opposition’s stances from his appointment, Ibrahim said: “Everything said about me is baseless and I am open to everyone.”
The cabinet appointed on Monday deputy military intelligence chief Brig.-Gen. Ibrahim as the new director-general of the General Security Department.
Ibrahim was also promoted to the rank of Major General.
